Tuscany, Italy
Sangiovese and Canaiolo
When Nate and I first tasted this wine, we looked at each other and our eyes screamed. Were we in front of some sort of Viña Tondonia Rosado remake, but from Tuscany and way, way cheaper? Maybe. Maybe we're exaggerating. But let me tell you. The wine is veeeery good.
This Rosato Lunella, or the rosé from the moon which is how I call it, is 80% Sangiovese, 20% Canaiolo, from three kilometres outside Siena, planed on sandy soils rich in ancient Pliocene marine and oyster fossils, which gives the wine a distinct freshness and salinity. Each variety was separately destemmed and crushed. After four hours of maceration, the pink juice was bled off each tank and blended. Only 3,000 bottles made. Certified organic. All things we deeply love.
The wine is very textural and salty. White peach, elderflower, orange blossom, jasmine, alongside tart red fruits. Drink it cold. Drink it with anything. Drink it while you're standing in the kitchen and dissociating after a long day of doing whatever thing you've been doing.
