Torre Alle Tolfe Chianti Colline Senesi 2022

Five kilometres from the centre of Siena, there's a 100-hectare farm called La Torre alle Tolfe. The name goes back to the eighth century, when it was built as a watchtower to defend the city. The first written records of winemaking on the estate date back to 1316! The Castelli family arrived in the 1950s. Now Mania and Giotto are living on the estate, representing the fourth generation. They farm 13 hectares of vineyards with their agronomist Stefano Amadeo, working with nature and the climate to grow abundant, organically grown grapes with zero impact on the land and its biodiversity. No chemicals, no shortcuts, just a deep respect for the place.

This wine is 90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo. Fermented and aged entirely in cement to preserve the wine's sense of place. The palate is full of blackberry preserves and plums, balanced by soft tannins. It's the kind of red that feels like it's been waiting for you. Hearty, warm, generous. We'd pair this with a lasagna filled with ground beef, pork, and veal. Something that takes time, that feeds people, that makes a table feel like a table and brings people together!
