Gamay
A rosé made from Gamay that makes us tear up because great things grow and are made in Ontario. We love The Farm. Peter and Dora Neudorf started this place called The Farm decades ago. Ten acres in Niagara's Twenty Mile Bench, planted to Pinot Noir. It's where they live, where they gather family and friends, the whole thing. But this rosé isn't from their home vineyard. It's from Gamay grown in the Creekshores sub-appellation.
The winemaker is Morgan Juniper. A very cool mother of three that has spent time working with low-intervention producers in Austria and is making very cool, fun wines. Twisting what people think this region can do. Because great things grow here. Great things are made here.
Like we said, the grapes are Gamay from the Creekshores sub-appellation, where the soil is rich in clay. More clay means more water retention, slightly bigger berries, more fruity, expressive wines. She macerated them on their skins for five hours, then gently pressed into stainless steel and let a slow, cold wild ferment run its course. That's how you get dark fruit and bright acidity at the same time. Fermented dry, bottled shortly after. The wine is veeeery dry and refreshing.
A rosé to reach for at anytime. It has dark cherry, bursty raspberry, a citrusy thing, a zippy-zappy refreshing zsa zsa zsu. So yummy, so good, so refreshing, we love Ontario wine!
