Albanello and Zibibbo
Arianna Occhipinti needs no introduction—but she deserves one. In a land often defined by bulk wine and tradition, she emerged as Sicily’s revolutionary voice, farming organically before it was a hashtag and bottling wines that taste not just of place, but of purpose.
SP68 is the Strada Provinciale 68, the country road that cuts through her world, linking vineyard to cellar, past to future. This is her manifesto: a radiant, skin-fermented blend of 60% Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria) and 40% Albanello from certified-organic, 20-year-old vines rooted in Vittoria’s chalky, red sandy soils.
The process is pure Occhipinti: hand-harvested, co-fermented with native yeasts, and macerated on the skins for two weeks in concrete. Aged six months in those same tanks and bottled unfiltered, this is wine made by gravity, patience, and conviction.
The wine is a beautiful paradox—soothingly round yet vividly fresh. It unfolds with crushed nectarine, wild fennel, and a spicy tinge of ginger before a cascade of wet concrete and salty minerals takes over. The finish lingers with green melon and lime zest, a thrilling, potent reminder that the most authentic flavours often come from the road less traveled.
Pair with pasta con le sarde, grilled swordfish with capers, or the simple, profound pleasure of a wine that tastes entirely of its place.
