Recommendations. We all want them, but most of the time, the best things are the ones you stumble upon. That's basically the story many regulars bring to the shop when they talk about their trips to Prince Edward County and the little wineries they discover along the way. Lighthall could be, and actually is, one of those. Tiny, on a lonely road, very near Point Peter where the land ends and the big slabs of County limestone sink into the waves of Lake Ontario.
Lighthall has been around since 2008, farming over 60 acres where the vines are hand-tended and the landscape is rugged and cool and full of that distinct County minerality.
Their Progression is a sparkling wine made from Vidal. Fresh, bouncy, loaded with white grapefruit and green apple peel. Bright, lively, with gentle bubbles and just a tiny bit of creaminess that smoothes everything out and makes it really nice and delicious.
Also, Lighthall makes their own sheep's milk cheese on site, but only during the summer. So if you're around there during the season, I highly recommend that you stop by.
