La Cueva 'La Patagua' 2025
Itata and Colchagua Valley, Chile
Sémillon, Sauvignon Vert, and Moscatel
'La Patagua' brings together two very different sides of Chile. Colchagua, warm and bold, known for its reds but also capable of expressive whites in the right spots. And Guarilihue in Itata, south, coastal and cool, with granite soils and a humid breeze that's perfect for old-vine Moscatel.
The blend is 90% Sémillon from Colchagua, co-planted with some Sauvignon Vert that they don't even bother declaring on the label. The other 10% is Moscatel from Itata, picked a month earlier because it ripens earlier. The Moscatel lifts everything up, adds floral and fruity notes. The Sémillon gives it roundness, richness. The Sauvignon Vert keeps it fresh and zippy.
Whole bunch pressed, cold settled for two days, then racked and fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. No filtration.
Vibrant, fresh, zippy, made to be sippy-ed too. A lovely tension between richness and brightness. It also has an interesting hint of jalapeño on the palate, in the best way possible, and a very satisfying saltiness.
Drink it with seafood, with grilled vegetables, with a salad on a warm evening.
