Malvasía Fina and Chardonnay
A Mediterranean white that doesn't play by Mediterranean rules. Font de la Figuera sits at 710 metres in the foothills of the Penya Foradà mountains, southwest of Valencia. Limestone soils, high altitude, a continental restraint that separates it from the sun-baked stereotype of Valencian wine.
The story starts with Javi Revert's great-grandfather, who planted many of the vineyards around the village. Javi went exploring those old plots and found varieties you've never heard of. Bonicaire. Arcos de Miguel. Merseguera. And Malvasía, the majority of this blend, with a little splash of Chardonnay. The two founders, Javi and Victor Marqués, became inseparable while working together at Celler del Roure over ten years ago.
The wine is 11.5% alcohol. Exactly what we need for the summer. Beautiful white fruit. Fuzzy peaches. Florals. So many florals. Gentle balsamic herbs, a bay leaf edge. The saline minerality of the calcareous limestone soils runs through the palate. It's breezy, it has a sharp herbal freshness. We love it.
Serve it well chilled with grilled seafood, paella, herb-roasted chicken, or fresh goat cheese. The low alcohol makes it the easiest second-bottle decision you'll make all night.
