Garnacha Blanca
We all have that bottle we keep in the fridge for emergencies. The one that's always in the wine rack for no special reason. The one in the cupboard that you forgot about until just now. The one you found in your wardrobe once and didn't ask questions. This could be that bottle.
Josep Grau farms 26 hectares of organic vineyards in Priorat and Montsant, on llicorella slate, chalky clay, and decomposed granite. This is his Garnacha Blanca from young vines. It was fermented with native yeasts and aged in concrete tanks for three months. It's a savoury, fleshy, with perfumed pear, green fig, white peach rolling along a subtly waxy palate, finishing with lingering stony spice. A lot of texture and weight for 12.5%. John Szabo called it "a white for proteins off the grill, definitely not casual sipping." I call it delicious.
Keep it in the fridge, or the wine rack, or the cupboard. In a place whee you can find it when you need it. Because you will need it.
