Furmint
Robert Gilvesy’s story reads like a plot twist: a Canadian-born son of Hungarian immigrants who traded blueprints for vine plots, leaving an architecture career to reclaim his roots on the volcanic slopes of Mount Szent György in Hungary. Here, on 13 organic hectares overlooking Lake Balaton, Gilvesy applies a designer’s precision to biodynamic farming, working with native yeasts and minimal intervention.
This is his Estate Furmint, from various organically farmed vineyards across Mount Saint George. Hand-picked, gently pressed, spontaneously fermented, aged in stainless steel for six months. A ray of sunshine with so much electricity running through it. Lemon and lime rinds on the nose. Lean, with beautiful minerality, fresh white peach, and a slight black pepper note that sneaks in at the end.
