Fitapreta 'O Iluminista' Tinto 2023

Once again, the wizard of wizards in Portugal, our dear António Maçanita, illuminating our way through the red wine selection with his 'O Iluminista'. Easy, fun, approachable red blend from Alentejo. Aragonez, Alfrocheiro, Moreto, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Carvalha, and Castelão (a whole cast of characters!!!!) coming from rocky schistous and granite vineyards in Alentejo, vines planted between 1979 and 1989 (a great decade, let's be honest) at 300 to 400 metres above sea level.

Juicy, juicy, juicy. Blackberry, plum, boysenberry, all the berries, honestly. Rockrose and herbs, a little cracked pepper on the finish. Tannins are sticky but not aggressive. Drink it with grilled meats, or drink it because you know what you like and what you like is a bigger red.
