Envínate 'La Santa de Úrsula' 2022

Envínate is a collective of winemakers, four friends from four different regions of Spain. Roberto Santana is from Tenerife, which is where this wine comes from. La Santa de Úrsula comes from La Corujera area, on the northeastern coast of Tenerife, in the highlands of Santa Úrsula. Three parcels of centenarian, ungrafted vines, a field blend of Listán Negro, Negramoll, and Listán Blanco, planted between 350 and 650 metres on sand and clay soils over red basalt bedrock. A small portion saw carbonic maceration, all in concrete, then blended and rested eight months on lees in 228-litre neutral French oak. Bottled unfined, unfiltered.

The 2022 vintage is darker and riper than its predecessor. Cherry and bramble lead the charge, then the soil asserts itself with gun smoke, balsamic lift, rose petals and talcum powder. The palate is juicy, with fine tannins. The tension between ripe fruit and volcanic mineral grip is simply marvelous.
