People sometimes mistake Muscadet for Muscat. It's one of the great tragedies of the wine world. Muscat is the sweet, floral one that smells like a flower shop exploded. Muscadet is the opposite. It's saline, mineral, oyster-shell, wet stone. Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is the most oceanic region in the Loire, and this is its benchmark. This is what the cool kids are looking for right now. Crispy mineral whites with actual character. And this is definitely what you should be drinking right now.
Clos des Briords, three hectares of mature vines, many over 60 years old, on granite-rich slopes overlooking the Maine river. Domaine de la Pépière farms organically and biodynamically. This hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts in underground glass-lined vats. Eight months on the lees without racking. That's how you get the signature texture, the depth, the quiet complexity that makes this one of the great Muscadets.
REFRESHINGLY MARITIME! Lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, oyster shell, wet stone!!! The palate is taut and beautifully textured, 'coz the extended lees ageing gives a gentle creaminess that is simply YUM.
