Languedoc-Roussillon, France

Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon

Two Southerners fell in love with each other, and with a field of white rocks. Nicole, from the south of France, with her contagious laugh and accent, met John, from the land of horses and bourbon in Kentucky. In 1996, she convinced him that the arid, rocky plateau of St. Jean de Minervois, a village of just 49 people, was the most beautiful place in the world.

They gave up the wide world for this lunar landscape. A place so rocky it feels like a moonscape. Organic farming was just the starting point. They've gone a step further, planting legumes, grasses, and flowers between the vines to create a living mulch. The soil is never bare. It holds water and life.

This is a blend of two grape giants: the old, rustic scoundrel Carignan and the handsome, structured Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep but surprisingly fresh. It smells of ripe black fruits and ink, and tastes of tart cassis and dusty earth.

This is the wine you open when you're making a big, forgiving stew, or just a really good burger.
