Castilla La Mancha, Spain
Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Viognier, Muscat, and Chardonnay
Rosalia Molina farms some of the highest elevation vineyards Castilla La Mancha. We're talking over 1100 metres, near the city of Cuenca, where the grapes take a long time to ripen. But that's the point. When they finally do, they're packed with intense flavour and sturdy structure.
Her Mil Historias White is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Viognier, Muscat, and Chardonnay. She gives them a couple of days on their skins to amp up the intensity even more. Smells like lemon sorbet with basil-infused olive oil, ripe apricot, just harvested peaches and rosemary. The mouth is creamy and full throttle, a play between yellow and orange orchard fruits and those same savoury herbs.
Not just a flimsy summer sipper, it's a wine that holds up to a pan-seared tuna steak, a bouillabaisse, something involving shrimp.
