Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese
Alessandro Viola's family has been rooted in Alcamo for generations, a town tucked between Trapani and Palermo on Sicily's northern coast. The vineyards sit just inland from the Gulf of Castellammare, where sea breezes carry cool, humid air up onto Mount Bonifato, creating the perfect conditions along the limestone and sandy soils.
Alessandro left to study oenology, worked abroad, and eventually made his way back home. His love for Sicilian grapes is the thread that runs through everything he makes.
This rosato is mostly Nero d'Avola (90%!) from the valley near Santa Ninfa, with a touch of Nerello Mascalese from Alcamo. Both varieties were picked early to lock in freshness, pressed directly, and fermented entirely in stainless steel.
This rosé is so refreshing, bright and tart. It almost makes your face squint. Lots of tart red fruit, a touch of blood orange, and a little peppery snap. We had a bottle of this recently by the lake and it will be locked as one of the best summer memories.
