Verdicchio

Castelli di Jesi is a landscape of medieval fortified towns and rolling hills, tucked between the Adriatic Sea and the Esino river, in the Marche. The soils are calcareous clay, rich in limestone and fossils. The sea breeze blows in during the morning, switches direction in the afternoon, and keeps the vineyards clean and healthy. The grapes ripen slowly, retaining their acidity, which is exactly what you want from Verdicchio.

Gian Mario Bongini grew up in Milan, farming with his family until university. Then a friend named Massimo introduced him to Le Marche and he fell in love. The landscapes, the food, the Verdicchio! He kept coming back for holidays, kept falling harder, kept dreaming about making wine there. Now he's making wine from two unique parcels in the same contrada, different altitudes, different soils, different expositions.

His Terralibera Verdicchio tastes like seashells and almond paste and has a coastal Italian vibe. The palate is fresh and fierce, almost like a Txakoli but with more weight. It's the wine that should always sit next to a branzino.
