Freisa, Barbera, and Nebbiolo

After two decades working alongside her husband at Cascina Iuli, Summer Wolff (born in New York, now rooted in a small Monferrato village) decided it was time for her own voice. She traveled Europe, tasting natural wines, and formed her own definition: “Natural means purity. Grace. Elegance. Clean and individual.”

This Freisa 'GioGio' (named for her first son, Gioacchino), is that definition made wine. She works with 30-year-old vines in Monferrato, a warmer area in Piedmont, blending skin-contact juice with a portion of direct press to soften Freisa's famously rugged edges. This vintage also includes 20% Nebbiolo and 10% Barbera, adding a bolder, more structured backbone without losing its juicy heart.

The wine has Freisa's serious, floral soul: all crushed violets and fresh red berries. It drinks with an elegant, light-footed ease. The tannins are balanced, not grippy; the body is medium, the finish fresh. It’s a wine that’s both rustic and refined, a quiet argument for a different kind of natural wine. One that’s for everyone.
