Macabeo
This beautiful Macabeo comes from Conca de Barberà, a high-altitude pocket in Catalonia guarded by coastal mountains. Cool nights, ancient rocky soils. The Foraster family has been here for over 150 years. In 1998, Josep stopped selling their fruit to the bulk market and started making his own wine. Smart move. Now his nephew Ricard runs the show, farming 29 hectares organically, moving toward biodynamic. The philosophy is minimal. Spontaneous fermentations, low intervention, no heavy oak, no chemical manipulation.
The Macabeo for Petita Julieta comes from 45-year-old vines planted at 400 metres. Harvested early to keep freshness. Cold fermented with six hours of skin contact, then a few more weeks with the lees before settling into steel tanks. Light, aromatic. Melon, white peach, citrus, bright flowers. Sooooo fresh and fruity, light, with a hint of grapefruit peel. Drink it on a patio, with a salad, with grilled fish, with nothing at all.
