Grüner Veltliner
Christina Netzl grew up on a mixed farm in Austria. Grains, corn, sugar beets, pigs, and some vines. She loved being in the vineyards, helping in the cellar, telling customers the stories behind the wines. She knew from a young age what she wanted to do.
She learned the "classical" way from her father, then studied enology, then did an internship for a London wine importer. That's where she tasted sooo many wines from all over the world and realized there was a whole different way of doing things. She came home in 2007, joined her parents at the winery, and started pushing for organic. Her husband was on board, and they got organic certified in 2018, being the 2021 vintage their first official organic one.
Now she makes low-intervention wines. Living wines, she calls them. You can feel her touch in this Grüner Veltliner. Grown on red gravel and loess soils, with cool winds from the Danube keeping things fresh, it was fermented in stainless steel. Fresh meadow herbs, white apple, a little pear. The taste is tight and woven together, a peppery snap. Then a hint of mango shows up on the finish, just when you least expect it. It's already easy to drink and veeeery refreshing. Danger?!?!
Drink it with Wiener Schnitzel, roasted chicken, pork, fish, seafood, whatever you have. It's not picky. Neither should you be.
