Mas Gomà 'La Planta' Brut Nature

The Mas Gomà estate has been in the Vendrell family since 1918. Located in Les Cabanyes, west of Vilafranca del Penedés, if you look at a satellite map you can see the white limestone soils spreading out around them like a blanket, sandwiched between the two green mountain ranges that separate Penedès from the Mediterranean and from the rest of interior Catalunya. The Macizo de Garraf and the Montañas de Ordal. According to the two Joans, the estate has unique characteristics for making long-aged cavas. The high calcareous soils, the good orientation, and the old vineyards. 

This wine is made from the first grapes they harvest each year. Mostly Macabeu, 60 per cent, plus Xarel-lo. The MVPs, the classics! The blend spends a minimum of 24 months on the lees before disgorgement. That's two years of patience, and it shows. There's a Champagne-like brioche note, a long finish, fresh stone fruit, citrus, a little honeysuckle. Salty, soil-driven, with lots of fresh white flowers and Mediterranean herbs.
