'Maggie And The Grapes' Vernaccia Colli della Toscana Centrale 2024

We have a thing for uncommon grapes in this shop. So when we came across a wine made only with Vernaccia, we had to try it. And we fell in love immediately.

Lorenzo Zonin comes from a long line of Italian winemakers. His family has been at it since 1901, farming organically and biodynamically on the Tuscan coast, where the land is a mosaic of gardens, cereal crops, olive trees, and pasture. Also, he named this wine after his dog Maggie. That's not relevant to the taste, but it's charming and I wanted you to know.

Maggie is 100% Vernaccia from San Gimignano, the traditional home of this grape. The soils there are full of calcareous rock and ancient seashells, which gives the wine that fresh, mineral, saline vibe. It has a nice thickness, but it's not heavy. Sliced apple, peach, apricot, a hint of quince, bright acidity. It's so nice to come across something that's not just Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. How wonderful is the world of wine.

And it works with everything. Hard cheese, salty cheese, light charcuterie, vegetables, poultry, fish. Whatever you're eating, it'll work.
