Champagne Pertois-Lebrun 'L'Extravertie' Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs
Champagne, France
Chardonnay
The Pertois family started making their own Champagne in the early 1900s, but it wasn't until 1955 that the Pertois-Lebrun name was born, when Paul Pertois married Françoise Lebrun. Now, five generations in, brothers Clément and Antoine run the show.
They farm 9.5 hectares across the big Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs: Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chouilly, Oger, Oiry. Plus some Premier Cru fruit from Cuis and Villeneuve. All Chardonnay, farmed organically and follownig biodynamic principles.
This cuvée is based on the 2020 vintage, with 14% reserve wines blended in for complexity. Fermented in a mix of stainless steel and oak, then aged on its lees for just under three years before disgorgement in February 2024. Dosage is a whisper at 3 grams per litre. Extra-brut. Very, very dry.
Bright and shining. Lemon pith and peel, juicy green apple core, fine patisserie made with the finest of butters. The finish is chalky, it's salty.
