Riesling
While studying at Geisenheim in the early 2000s, Andreas Adam started reclaiming his family's abandoned, steep parcels in Dhroner Hofberg. He paid almost nothing for land everyone else had walked away from. Joined by his sister Barbara, they now farm 45 separate plots with a kind of intense, obsessive care. Nothing added, everything by hand. This riesling comes from the Im Pfarrgarten (which translates into "the old rectory garden at the very foot of the Hofberg"), replanted to vines in the 1960s. It’s a wine that almost tricks you: labeled feinherb (off-dry), it tastes bone-dry and so bright. It’s all cool, crisp and intense lemon zest, with a bold, lemony finish. There’s a shy hint of grapefruit and herbs. It’s like lemon candy, but without the cloying sweetness. The 25 g/L of residual sugar just vanishes. Who's afraid of residual sugar? Not this Riesling. And neither should you!
