heinrich-leithaberg-chardonnay-2023
Heinrich Leithaberg Chardonnay 2023

We love Heinrich! We recently tasted with Adam Kuruc, who visited Toronto and showed us some of their very beautiful wines from the Burgenland. He was telling us that vintage 2023 was the "no drama" vintage. The ripening of the grapes was slow and steady and no climatic disasters threatened the quality of the fruit. This Chardonnay is planted in little rugged ravines in the Leithaberg part of the Burgeland, where soils are a mix of schist of limestone. It really comes through in the wine with a really nice complex minerality and salinity. Besides this crispy, crunchy structure, the wine has this magic smell of earthy sandalwood that feels so appropriate for Fall. The palate is textured and creamy and while I am writing this we are entering Thanksgiving weekend and I cannot think of a better Chardonnay to welcome the spooky season and put on the table next to that juicy bird you're about to start making.
