His father worked in renowned wineries, so wine was always around. After studying at the Blanquefort School of Oenology and Viticulture, he worked at Château Grand Tuy Lacaste, at Cos d'Estournel. But it was at Bodegas y Viñedos Luna Beberide, in El Bierzo, where he really made a name for himself. Now he runs his own project, Bodegas Mengoba.

El Bierzo is nestled in the northwest of Spain, gaining recognition thanks to great winemakers like Raúl Pérez. It's in the province of León, with a unique microclimate influenced by the Atlantic and the surrounding mountains. Slate and clay soils, indigenous varieties like Mencía and Godello.

Brezo Blanco is mostly Godello with a little splash of Doña Blanca. I blind tasted some wine friends and they could not guess what it was. One thought it was Grüner Veltliner, and it makes sense, because it has a nice green snap, like very fresh snow peas. Someone else guessed a young Muscadet from the Loire, because it has that pointy minerality and a creamy background. It's a lovely wine, somewhere in between Grüner and Muscadet, perfect with anything you throw at it.
